Creativity without direction

By providing tools and supplies, without a set task and goal for them to complete, children are able to create freely. They can explore the materials they've been given, experiment with different processes and bring to life ideas that have begun in their imagination. There are no standards for them to meet - it's the perfect setting for them to get creative.

It develops their motor skills

The small muscles in their hands develop sooner when they learn to cut, glue and paint. In turn this can help them learn to use both hands at the same time, eat by themselves and tie their own shoelaces earlier.

Build self-esteem and confidence

Some children find it difficult to voice their feelings, however through their artwork they may find it easier to express how they're feeling. In addition to this, art isn't about beating each other, and praising each other's creations will boost their confidence.

How to store children's art supplies

Now you know how important art is for children's learning and development, how can you encourage them to get painting? Having easy access to art supplies is really important. Compact drawers that contain everything they need, but don't take up too much space, are ideal. Jars that tidy away easily, old tupperware and clear boxes make it easy for them to see their art supplies, but are neat and tidy enough that they're not taking over the house. Scrapbooks and photo albums are also perfect for storing children's art when space is tight and you can't hang everything they create!
